A Box in the City, A Room of One’s Own
When movement and change become reality, and when they intensify at a speed almost impossible to measure, the individual seems inevitably drawn into an external logic of repetition: movement, migration, stations, passersby.

In an age when anyone can be an artist, the word “art” has become an overused label—one that nevertheless still seems to maintain a certain distance. How, then, can art be accurately recognized or identified today? The conception of art within the academy still appears to be separated from the general public by an excessively rigid boundary.
“How can we break through?”
The position from which this question is asked is itself academic, culturally privileged, and even structured by an implicit hierarchy. Although “art and life” are often invoked as inseparable, we more often seem to withdraw from the crowd, confining ourselves within a paradise—or sanctuary—called art.
“Thus, we drive a BUS and drift through the city.”
Moving through sites scattered beyond the academy—perhaps in the wilderness, perhaps in the city center, or perhaps in spaces situated at the urban periphery—we attempt to conduct a form of urban guerrilla action through drifting. We intervene in and penetrate the heterogeneity of space, while distilling a heightened perception of place through movement, using a mobile spatial structure to connect one space with another.
Drifting is an unstable form of movement. Along the routes that connect point to point and communicate between one site and another, it struggles toward the limits of motion, the margins of madness, and the uncontrolled edge of the unknown.
At the same time, drifting operates as a means of measuring abstract space. Through movement, it measures the distance between predetermined routes and their boundaries, between reality and madness. The moment of drifting is a moment of detachment from reality—or, more precisely, a state that emerges through the accidental process of peeling away from reality and approaching madness.
Beyond functioning as a means of transportation, what else can a moving BUS become? What kinds of spatial qualities might emerge within its confined interior as it drifts along the boundary between reality and madness? And what might the trajectory of drifting inscribe?
This is a journey from the everyday toward the loss of control, while drifting simultaneously becomes a dynamic act of cultural measurement. Yet drifting can only approach the boundary of losing control without ever defining it precisely. It can exist only as an endless movement of attempting to come closer, closer still, and closer again…
Outside the everyday, before madness.
